Nominated by you, the Education Skilled Trades Advocate recognizes an individual within the education high school system who actively supports and promotes skilled trades career pathways for students.
The eligible nominee must:
- be a department, district or high school employee (such as teacher, a shop teacher, a district subject coordinator, a principal, a guidance counselor or others similar position);
- be in the school system at least 5 years;
- be nominated by two (2) references - at least one (1) nominator must have (or have had) a working relationship with the nominee, and no more than one (1) nominator may be a relative of the nominee;
The nominee will have distinguished themselves during their career through one or more of the following:
- Demonstrates exceptional teaching practices that effectively integrate skilled trade knowledge and practical skills;
- Actively supports or participates in pre-apprenticeship training or experiential learning opportunities for students;
- Advocates for skilled trades within the school system (curriculum support, program development, awareness activities);
- Builds strong connections with industry partners, promoting opportunities such as Career Pathway Mentorship placements, apprenticeship pathways, NBTAP participation, and/or involvement in Skills Canada New Brunswick competitions;
- Inspires and prepares students to pursue careers in the skilled trades by increasing awareness of apprenticeship pathways and industry opportunities;
- Champions the value of skilled trades within the school community and encourages diverse student participation in trades-related programs.
